Captain HornBagpipe
Captain Horne is a traditional Scottish strathspey whose origins remain poorly documented. The identity of the eponymous captain is unknown — in the bagpipe repertoire, titles of the "Captain + proper name" type most often refer to a local military officer or one connected to a regiment, but no source allows us to confirm who this Horne was or who composed the piece in his honour.
The tune appears in the Scots Guards Standard Settings, an essential reference for the pipe band repertoire, and is among the strathspeys prescribed by the RSPBA for competition. Its characteristic dotted rhythm — typical of the genre — and its lively, straightforward melody make it a well-regarded piece both in solo and ensemble playing, regularly paired with other strathspeys in competition sets.
